Serious question…… has the rule changed so that an offence is only an offence if it is committed close to/within playing distance of the ball?

I think what swayed it was that it was a case of one player holding another with no other players anywhere near to cloud the issue. If it had been 4 v 4 in a tight area there would’ve been more room for doubt. Also think the incident was so far from where the ball was dropping that the referee...

That can’t be right otherwise on a free kick the defenders could grab every attacker to prevent them attacking the ball.
